Recently, I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to work with the Association of Sports Journalists of Ireland, or ASJI, as they held a special event to pay tribute to the Irish showjumping team that won the Aga Khan trophy in the 1970s.

The day included a trip out to the RDS as they prepared the arena for this years’ Dublin Horse Show, where the team were reunited with the trophy itself, followed by a special lunch and presentation of medals by Peter Byrne, president of the ASJI. It was a wonderful event, and it was great to see these Irish sporting heroes celebrated on the 40th anniversary of their incredible achievement. It was especially touching to see how much the event meant to the three surviving members of that great team, Con power, Eddie Macken and James Kernan, as well as Jane, the widow of the late Paul Darragh.

I am very grateful I got to play some part in honouring their achievements, and I hope you enjoy the video.
